This how-to will teach you how to add contacts while using WhatsApp. While you won't be able to talk to contacts who don't have WhatsApp installed on their devices, you can invite any non-WhatsApp contact to use WhatsApp.
1. Add WhatsApp contact on iPhone
1. Give WhatsApp access to your contact list.
To do this, do the following:
- Tap on Settings.
- Scroll down to the bottom of your apps list and tap on WhatsApp.
- Toggle the switch to the On position image titled Iphoneswitchonicon1.png through contacts.
2. Open the WhatsApp application.
- If this is the first time you open WhatsApp on your phone, you need to set up WhatsApp first.
3. Tap on the Chats tab.
It is at the bottom of the page.
- If WhatsApp opens for a conversation, just tap the back button in the upper left corner of the screen.
4. Tap the box with a pencil.
It is located in the upper right corner of the page.
5. Tap on New Contact.
You will find this option at the top of the page below the search bar. Doing so will open a new contact page.
6. Type the name of the contact in the corresponding field.
7. Type their phone number next to mobile.
If you want to change the label from “Mobile”, tap the blue mobile label and choose a new one such as “Work”, “Home”, or “iPhone”.
- To change the location of the area code, tap on the country name. For our dear country, Iran, the code is +98.
8. Click Save in the upper right corner.
9. Tap Done.
It is located in the upper left corner of the page. Doing so will save the contact number in your iPhone contacts app. If the contact you added uses WhatsApp, it will also save the contact in your WhatsApp contact list.
2. Add WhatsApp contacts on Android
1. Open the WhatsApp app.
- If this is the first time you open WhatsApp on your phone, you need to set up WhatsApp first.
2. Tap on the speech bubble icon.
Tap the speech bubble icon. You'll see this in the top right corner of the screen, to the left of the ⋮ button.
- If WhatsApp opens for a conversation, first tap on the top left corner of the screen.
3. Tap on New Contact.
At the top of your contacts menu is next to an icon that looks like a person. Doing so will take you to the Create New Contact page.
- If prompted to select an app, tap the Contacts app.
- If you have multiple Google accounts on your phone, select the person you want to add a contact to.
4. Type the person's name.
5. Tap on the “Mobile” section. Below is the “Organization” section.
6. Enter the phone number of your contact.
If this number is from another area, you may add an area code (for example, “+98” for our country, Iran) in addition to the standard 10 digits.
7. Tap Done.
It is located in the upper left corner of the page. By doing this you can save your contact information in your Android contacts app. Additionally, if the person you've added uses WhatsApp, you can now make a voice or video call to them via WhatsApp.
3. Add an unsaved contact from WhatsApp chat on iPhone
1. Open the WhatsApp application.
Make sure WhatsApp has access to your contacts.
2. Tap Chat.
3. Select the conversation whose contact is not saved.
4. Tap the more icon • • or tap the number at the top of the chat.
5. Tap Add to contacts Create New Contact.
4. Invite a contact on WhatsApp on iPhone
1. Open the WhatsApp app.
- If this is the first time you open WhatsApp on your phone, you need to set up WhatsApp first.
2. Tap Settings.
It is in the lower right corner of the page.
- If WhatsApp opens for a conversation, first tap on the top left corner of the screen.
3. Scroll down and tap Tell a friend.
You will find this option at the bottom of the page.
4. Tap on Message.
5. Tap on your friend's name.
You may have to scroll down to find it.
- Any names that appear here are non-WhatsApp users from your iPhone's Contacts app.
- You can use the search bar at the top of the page to search for a specific contact.
6. Tap Send 1 Invite.
It is in the lower right corner of the page. This will open a New Message window with a link to WhatsApp.
- If you have more than one name, instead of sending [تعداد] You see the invitations.
7. Tap the send arrow.
This is the green or blue icon on the right side of the text window near the screen. Doing so will send an invitation to your selected person (or persons). if they Download WhatsApp and install it, you can contact them through the app.
4. Invite a contact on WhatsApp on Android
1. Open the WhatsApp application.
- If this is the first time you open WhatsApp on your phone, you need to set up WhatsApp first.
2. Tap on the three dots.
You will see this option in the upper right corner of the screen.
- If WhatsApp opens for a conversation, first tap on the top left corner of the screen.
3. Tap on Settings.
4. Tap Invite a friend.
It is at the bottom of the settings menu.
5. Tap on Messages.
It has an icon that looks like a speech bubble
6. Tap on your friend's name.
It is in your contact list. You may have to scroll down to find it.
- Any names that appear here are non-WhatsApp users from your Android contacts app.
- You can use the search bar at the top of the page to search for a specific contact.
7. Tap Send 1 invite.
It is in the lower right corner of the page. This will open a message window with a link to WhatsApp.
- If you have more than one name, instead of sending [تعداد] You see the invitations.
8. Tap the Submit button.
This will send your invitation to your chosen people. If they download WhatsApp, they will automatically be added to your WhatsApp contact list.
